What is Watsu

First developed by Harold Dull in Northern California, Watsu combines the principles and stretches of Shiatsu massage within the weightless environment of a warm water pool.

In the years since, with the help of countless others in classes, clinics and spas around the world, Watsu has evolved into what many consider the most profound development in bodywork in our time.

How Watsu works

As in a traditional Shiatsu massage, stretches and manipulation release blockages in the meridians or channels where our “Chi” or lifeforce flows. However by combining this with the supportive qualities of warm water it is possible to free the spine, joints and muscles in a way that would be impossible on land.

In addition to greater flexibility the warm water also induces a state of deep meditative relaxation which lasts far beyond the session itself.

What to expect

After a discussion on your particular requirements or any health concerns you have you will be invited into the warm water which is standing depth.

You will then be gently taken in to floatation fully supported with your face above the water. All that is required from you is to simply close your eyes and relax your body. You will then be led through a sequence of gentle stretches and manipulations.

At the end of the session you will gently be brought back to a standing position feeling revitalised and relaxed.
